Community Services

Welcome to Kelvin SDA Community Services department. The main objective of the Community Services department is to “Promote the church that cares”. Theme is “Love in Action” based on Matt 25:35-36, which reads, “35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” - NIV
These objective and theme were informed by the fact that, “only 29 percent of church members were involved in community service” according to “2002 world survey of Adventists”. Furthermore, they are aimed at supporting "Tell the World" vision, in which the church intends to "increase members’ involvement from 29% to at least 40%, by 2010” according to “Adventist News Network Bulletin” dated 1/30/2007.
The Community Services Department caters for the special needs of marginalised. It aims at bringing tranquillity, social and economic development of women, children, disabled and juvenile delinquents in our part of the world. The Department has been able to formulate programmes for the welfare and development of women and children and networking with departments in the church. We have undertaken a large number of major initiatives in the Social Welfare Sector. Such achievements are capacity building and supplementary nutrition to children, mothers and
families. Besides, continuing existing schemes for children, women, disabled persons in the our part of the world it is necessary to give more emphasis on the preventive and rehabilitation measures in the social problems issues like drug addiction, juvenile delinquency, child labour, prostitution and to empower women.
There are many activities planned for the year 2010. We hope to touch the lives of multitudes of God's children our there who need our help. Some ofthe planned programmes are:
Organizing of uniforms for school children at Realogile High School, in Alexandra.
Food parcels for needy families in Alexandra
Blankets for elderly folk at retirement homes
Visits to juvenile homes
Please feel free to participate in the programmes of the department.
The more people who participate, the better our world will be.
